We are a new practice that combines the care of adults
and children. Our physicians, trained in both pediatrics
and internal medicine, offer compassionate and highquality
care to all age groups. Our goal is to help you
and your family achieve your personal health goals, so
you can pass that heritage to future generations.
Internal Medicine-Pediatrics: What It Is
Internal Medicine-Pediatrics trained physicians
combine the skills, wisdom and dedication of
pediatricians and internists in a single physician. This
description may seem similar to Family Medicine but,
while some overlap exists, the training is significantly
different. A four-year residency contains two years
of formal training in Internal Medicine and two years
of formal training in Pediatrics. The typical family
practitioner has received only three to four months of
formal training in Pediatrics.
Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency graduates qualify to take medical boards in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. We are uniquely adept at treating adults with the diseases of childhood such as sickle cell disease, autism, congenital heart disease, cystic fibrosis, childhood malignancies and genetic disorders (such as Down syndrome).
On the other hand, we are trained to treat children that have developed adult diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, sleep apnea and high cholesterol.
In addition, caring for multiple generations of the same family lends the physician a better comprehension of family dynamics, disease state and the impact of acute or chronic illness at all ages. Patients and families may form long-term relationships with their health provider over several decades.
Note: While we are especially suited to treat people with special conditions as described above, our practice is not limited to them. We see all patients.
Greenville Hospital System
Our physicians are faculty members of Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS). Greenville Memorial Hospital is a regional referral center with Greenville's only Level 1 trauma center. GHS is a research institution with approximately 170 resident physicians and 600 ongoing research and clinical trials. GHS also offers Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Simpsonville and other community hospitals located on Greenville's Eastside and in Greer and Travelers Rest.
